ABA Bank, Cambodia's largest commercial bank, was recently recognized and appreciated for its significant contribution to the National Bank of Cambodia's "Embedding Financial Literacy into School Curriculum" program.
This recognition underscores ABA Bank's vital role in equipping Cambodian youth with the knowledge and skills needed for responsible financial management.
The Program's third phase was launched by H.E. Dr. Chea Serey, Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia, on 1 February 2024, aiming to equip students in grades 5-12 with the knowledge and skills to manage their finances responsibly in an evolving economic landscape. Recognizing the importance of effective instruction, this phase includes crucial teacher training initiatives where teachers will receive complete knowledge, empowering them to deliver impactful financial literacy lessons to students.
This comprehensive approach recognizes that financial literacy encompasses more than just numbers and calculations. It also covers essential skills like budgeting, saving, investing, and responsible borrowing, all contributing to overall financial well-being.
The "Embedding Financial Literacy into School Curriculum" project represents a commitment to long-term financial literacy development in Cambodia. The Program's first two phases, launched in 2017 and targeting grades 1-12, have laid a strong foundation for equipping students with essential financial knowledge and responsible money management skills.
Igor Zimarev, Chief Marketing and CSR Officer at ABA Bank stated, "We are honored to be recognized for our contribution to this crucial program. Financial literacy is fundamental to individual and national well-being, and we are committed to working alongside NBC to empower future generations with the financial skills and tools they need to succeed."
In addition to its involvement in the national program, ABA has been demonstrating its commitment to financial inclusion by providing financial literacy classes to over 700 individuals in the rural area of Ratanakiri province since 2022. This dedication extends beyond financial education, promoting responsible financial practices at the community level among people lacking financial literacy, long-term planning and household budgeting skills.
