ABA Bank, one of the leading commercial banks in Cambodia, has won the “Bank of the Year 2016” award from The Banker, a world known financial publication based in London (UK). The award ceremony was held in London on December 07 and gathered bankers from all around the world to celebrate their success and achievements.

The judges’ decision to choose ABA Bank is based on its financial strength, continuous introduction of innovative products, and the best business practices. The judges separately noted the success of the SMART banking platform, which provides ABA customers with easy-to-use remote banking and customer support tools available 24/7.

“It is an honor to be named as the Bank of the Year in Cambodia by the Banker magazine. This recognition reflects our performance in serving customers and signifies our achievements on providing the best digital financial solutions,” Mr. Askhat Azhikhanov, the CEO of ABA Bank said on the occasion. “This year, we continued to follow our sound business model and strategically continued to improve the self-banking facilities. I am also confident that our partnership with National Bank of Canada convinced the judging panel that ABA is a solid and the fastest growing bank in Cambodia”, he added.

Year 2016 turned remarkable for ABA. In May, National Bank of Canada (NBC) became the major shareholder with 90% of ABA Bank shares. This partnership significantly increases ABA’s capital, supports its robust growth and brings unique expertise to ABA. It has also enabled the bank to provide thousands of loans to micro-, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) empowering the growth of economy and social well-being of the country. As a result, ABA Bank’s number of accounts increased from 85,000 at the end of 2015 up to 155,000 as of December 1, 2016. This growth shows the momentous potential of the Bank and clients’ confidence in ABA.

“The Bank of the Year 2016” award from The Banker magazine joins a host of trophies that ABA has garnered previously in 2014. In addition, ABA Bank has won Euromoney’s “Best Bank in Cambodia" award for the last three consecutive years and received the accolade from Global Finance as “Best Bank in Cambodia” in 2015 and 2016.
