Fostering sport movement in Cambodia and following its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy, ABA Bank proudly sponsored the Women’s Wheelchair Basketball Match organized by the Office of the Embassy of Canada. The event took place at the Olympic Stadium’s Indoor Arena on April 26 2017.
The match between teams from Battambang and Kampong Speu was organized in association with the International Committee of the Red Cross in Cambodia (ICRC), the Cambodia Basketball Federation and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport. To strengthen and increase the capacity of the players, Office of the Embassy of Canada brought Canadian coaches to work closely with the two teams providing training on tactics and techniques prior to the match.
“We are happy to support the Women’s Wheelchair Basketball match as it demonstrates the power of human spirit and encourages many other people go in for sports,” said Lim Seang Heng, Public Relations supervisor at ABA Bank. “We hope that this match will motivate people to stay active regardless of their physical shape or abilities,” she added.
The Women’s Wheelchair Basketball teams were originally set up in Cambodia in 2012 to encourage women in sports. The scoring, pitch dimensions and height of the basket for the wheelchair athletes are the same as in regular basketball. The match was divided into three rounds and included the dance performance from Epic Arts, an inclusive performance group based in Battambang. The Battambang team won the match and brought home their well-deserved trophy.
