ABA, Visa officially introduce QR payments in Cambodia
20/Dec/2018
ABA Bank, member of National Bank of Canada Group, today partnered with Visa, the world’s leading digital payment service provider company, and four commercial banks in Cambodia to launch Quick Response (QR) payments in Cambodia, allowing consumers to use their mobile phones to scan to pay with Visa.
Visa’s QR based payment is a convenient and secure mobile payment solution that allows ABA Bank customers use ABA Mobile app installed on their smartphone to scan a QR code initiating a transfer of funds from their account to the retailer’s account.
Commenting on the launch, CEO of ABA Bank Askhat Azhikhanov said, “We are excited to successfully launch QR-based cashless payments with Visa today. Scan to pay with Visa becomes handy for ABA customers, enabling them to pay for purchases using a smartphone, even if they do not have cash or a bank card. It is also beneficial for small businesses in Cambodia, since rolling out this payment option doesn’t require extra costs. QR-payment solutions greatly help to accelerate the country’s transition to a cashless society.”
At launch, five Cambodian banks participate in facilitating Visa QR payments at their merchants, making this service widely available in the country. Now, ABA Visa cardholders (including Visa Virtual card) can use their ABA Mobile app to scan and pay at any merchant that has “Scan to pay with Visa” logo. That includes a wide range of merchants such as Master Suki Soup Group, EFG Group (The Pizza Company, Bar BQ Plaza, Swenson’s, Dairy Queen and Krispy Kreme), Yummy Food Co. Ltd., U-Care Pharma, Kiwi Marts, Yinkok Food (Tous Les Jours, Asia Kitchen, Lotteria Burger), Zando, Park Café, and more.
Monika Chum, Country Manager of Visa Cambodia, said, “The launch of QR payments is an important milestone in the evolution of digital payments in Cambodia. Utilising mobile phones and QR code technology provides a cost-effective way for businesses to start accepting electronic payments and for consumers to make digital payments instead of relying on cash.”
All QR transactions with Visa are processed via Visa’s global network, VisaNet, applying the scale, security and reliability of Visa to QR payments. Cambodia joins a growing list of countries across the region where QR payments have been implemented including Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand and India.
