ABA​ supports​ female​ entrepreneurs​ via​ WE​ Act’s​ Women​ Entrepreneurship​ Challenge

ABA​ Bank,​ Cambodia’s​ leading​ commercial​ bank,​ is​ proud​ to​ sponsor​ the​ “Women​ Entrepreneurship​ Challenge”​ program,​ an​ initiative​ of​ WE​ Act​ Cambodia,​ implemented by​ Sevea​ and​ its​ supporters,​ Geeks​ in​ Cambodia​ and​ iCube.​ The​ program​ ran​ between​ December​ 2021 and​ March​ 2022​ and​ consisted​ of​ two​ challenge​ cycles,​ aimed​ to​ engage​ young​ women​ entrepreneurs​ and​ female​ university​ students​ in​ developing​ their​ business​ ideas.​ Coached​ by​ experienced​ female​ entrepreneurs,​ this​ year’s​ program​ gathered​ 60​ participants​ between​ the​ age​ of​ 18​ and​ 35.

The​ closing​ event​ held​ on​ 1​ April​ 2022​ at​ SOSORO​ Museum​ was​ graced​ by​ H.E.​ Dr.​ Chea​ Serey,​ Assistant​ Governor​ and​ Director​ General​ of​ National​ Bank​ of​ Cambodia​ and​ H.E.​ Koung​ Sorita,​ Under​ Secretary​ of​ State​ for​ the​ Ministry​ of​ Women's​ Affairs.​ At​ the​ end​ of​ the​ event,​ the​ top​ two teams​ who​ excelled​ in​ developing​ and​ pitching​ the​ best​ business​ ideas​ in​ front​ of​ a​ jury​ panel,​ received​ cash​ prizes​ from​ ABA​ Bank.​

During​ her​ key​ remarks,​ H.E.​ Chea​ Serey​ said,​ “We​ have​ cooperated​ with​ the​ Ministry​ of​ Women’s​ Affairs​ to​ enhance​ women​ financial​ inclusion​ to​ training​ for​ the​ trainer's​ program,​ it​ is​ the​ program​ that​ seeks​ to​ provide​ financial​ knowledge​ to​ women​ in​ community​ or​ school,​ primary​ or​ secondary​ and​ enhance​ their​ entrepreneurship.​ Immediate​ supportive​ measures​ shall​ be​ addressed​ to​ strengthen​ their​ skills,​ business​ linkages,​ and​ participation​ from​ all​ relevant​ stakeholders​ is​ needed.”​

Through​ this​ sponsorship,​ ABA​ continues​ to​ express​ its​ commitment​ to​ making​ a​ positive​ contribution​ to​ Cambodia​ by​ supporting​ the​ development​ of​ entrepreneurial​ spirit​ in​ the​ society,​ especially​ aspiring​ female​ entrepreneurs​ and​ women-led​ businesses.

About​ the​ WE​ Act​ Project
Women​ Entrepreneurs​ Act​ (WE​ Act)​ is​ a​ five-year​ project​ that​ supports​ young​ women​ entrepreneurs​ (YWE)​ to​ strengthen​ their​ skills,​ business​ linkages,​ and​ participation​ with​ relevant​ associations.​ It​ is​ funded​ by​ the​ USAID​ and​ implemented​ by​ Pact​ Cambodia,​ in​ collaboration​ with​ many​ organizations.​ The​ project​ targets​ young​ women​ entrepreneurs​ and​ female​ university​ students.
