Domestic Retail Bank of the Year

ABA Bank, a leading Cambodian commercial bank in digital finances, announces that it received the “Domestic Retail Bank of the Year in Cambodia” award at the Asian Banking and Finance magazine’s Retail Banking Awards 2021.

The experts of Asian Banking and Finance praised ABA with the improvement of its digital banking platform used to serve customers as well as its network expansion in 2020.

The Bank proved throughout the year that innovation is at the core of its operations, rolling out a plethora of convenient new features in its ABA Mobile app that include the Instant Loan feature, Visa Direct service, Ria Money Transfers, MoneyGram Instant Transfers, and many others.

ABA’s online payment platform PayWay also witnessed a winning year as it continued to grow in popularity. In 2020, the platform received the “Credentials on File” feature that helps merchants process recurring or future payments automatically. The judges specifically mentioned the successful launch of the PayWay Mobile app, which helps businesses of any size accept cashless payments from customers using their smartphones by generating QR codes.
Covering the geographical expansion of ABA, the magazine praised the roll out of the network of ABA 24/7 self-banking spots. The spots are strategically located in high-traffic and crowded areas and allow cash withdrawals and deposits to be made and checks to be credited in a comfortable atmosphere at any time of the day.

“This award from the Asian Banking and Finance magazine demonstrates the amount of efforts we undertake to make our products and services better and more convenient for our customers. We are pleased to see more Cambodians using digital finances for their daily needs, with our ABA Mobile app remaining their top choice,” said Askhat Azhikhanov, CEO of ABA Bank.

Asian Banking and Finance editor Timothy Charlton said: “ABA Bank may just be Cambodia’s most influential bank in 2020. Praised as the market frontrunner in modern finance and digital transformation, ABA Bank showcased stronger performance metrics for the year, with total assets growing 40% whilst gross loans jumped 38% to US$3.8 billion compared to the prior year.”

“Key to this growth is the success of ABA Bank’s flagship retail proposition, the ABA Mobile app, which saw a 74% year-on-year growth of its client base in 2020. For their admirable growth in operations amidst a time of global economic challenges, and for their continuous commitment to launching innovative financial products and services in Cambodia, ABA Bank is rightfully taking home the award for Domestic Retail Bank of the Year - Cambodia,” he added.
