ABA launches financial literacy program for students

ABA Bank joined hands with National Bank of Canada, and United Nations Association in Canada (UNAC) to launch the Financial Literacy Internship Program for students in Cambodia. The Program consists of the series of workshops where professional interns from Canada together with the ABA Bank staff discuss with students on crucial points in establishing and running own business.
The first workshop of the Program took place in Phnom Penh’s Paragon International University on July 4. The first twenty students, who showed their interest in starting own business after graduating from the university, participated in the event and received entrepreneurial knowledge along with basics of financial literacy for their future endeavours.
Erin McGee, specializing in accounting in Canada, became the first Professional Intern of the Program and the facilitator of the workshop. “It is very important for individuals, especially youth, who are coming up as the country’s next generation, be able to understand their financial situation. Particularly for this group of students who are interested in starting a business, understanding finances and being able to properly plan for the future raise the chances of success in their journey,” she commented.
The participants of the workshop are currently studying banking and finance majors at Paragon University. In respond to their passion, Vichet Chhun, Head of Retail Banking at ABA became a speaker during the event, where he shared his tips on how to prepare themselves to be a business owner. He also explained on the bank products and services that can ease financial life of an entrepreneur and open more opportunities while managing own business.
ABA and other partnering entities will continue the implementation of the Program in 2019 with possible expansion to include women entrepreneurs and other microbusiness owners.
ABA Bank has been continuously investing in the increase of the financial literacy in Cambodia. In particular, the Bank is running the live radio show together with Women’s Radio called “More Than Money”, where various experts and representatives of ABA discuss on the importance of business planning, necessity of usage of banking services for running business, and advantages of modern digital finance platforms to streamline processes and boost sales.
