In the remote district of Kampong Ro, which is 30 kilometers away from Svay Rieng provincial town, stands a humble educational facility that plays a vital role in shaping the aspirations of over 1,600 students. Hun Sen Kampong Ro High School, the sole high school in the area, once faced numerous challenges that hindered its students' pursuit of knowledge and dreams.

For years, Hun Sen Kampong Ro High School grappled with the weight of inadequate infrastructure and limited resources. The old and dilapidated buildings were ill-equipped to accommodate the growing number of eager minds. During harsh weather conditions, students and teachers avoided continuing their studies in compromised structures. Dreams were put at stake, and the isolated location of the school, far from urban centers, made it even more challenging to attract donors and support vital improvements.

The turning point
Recognizing the difficulties faced by the school, ABA Bank stepped forward to address these challenges and enhance the learning environment for the students. Through a generous contribution of approximately $20,000, the bank initiated a multifaceted project to improve the school's infrastructure and promote a conducive learning atmosphere.

The essence of ABA Bank's contribution lies in the monetary value and the tangible impact it created. The school's infrastructure underwent a transformation, as two buildings and two toilets received a much-needed renovation. The addition of 12 white glass boards ushered in interactive teaching methods, while 30 benches added comfort and ease to the students' daily lives. The basketball court, now painted with vibrant colors, symbolized the spirit of sportsmanship. Moreover, the school's surroundings bloomed with life as over 50 trees and plants were lovingly planted.

Recognizing the importance of digital literacy in the modern world, ABA Bank also established a computer lab within the school premises. Equipped with 15 desktop computer sets linked to one network, this lab will empower students with the necessary technology skills for future endeavors.

Gratitude and hope
The ceremony to hand over the renovated facilities to the students occurred on 5 August. It was graced by the esteemed presence of H.E. Toch Polyva, the Deputy Governor of Svay Rieng province, along with senior representatives from the provincial office of education. The event also witnessed the participation of ABA Bank's management, staff, school principal, teachers, and students.

H.E. Toch Polyva stated, "We commend the private sector's involvement in education development in our province. ABA Bank's donation to Hun Sen Kampong Ro High School demonstrates the positive impact of public-private partnerships in improving educational facilities for our students. "In fact, this is the largest monetary donation from the private sector to Svay Rieng province," he concluded.

Seom Kongka Reaksa, a grade 12 student, expressed her excitement for the project, "I'm thrilled to finally have the opportunity to learn and enhance my technology skills in this new computer class. ABA Bank's support has opened new horizons for us".

During the ceremony, Ly Vithiea, Chief Human Resources Officer at ABA Bank, shared the bank's commitment to education as a pillar of its Corporate Social Responsibility strategy. "We are honored to be part of this meaningful action for the community we serve. ABA Bank believes in investing in education as a crucial step toward the development of our nation.

"This is just one of the many school improvement programs we have planned. We look forward to continuing our efforts in improving the lives of Cambodian children," she added with determination.

As a responsible corporate citizen, ABA remains committed to supporting local communities and fostering a brighter future for Cambodia's youth. The bank continues driving positive change and sustainable development nationwide through its robust Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.

By addressing the challenges of Kampong Ro High School, ABA Bank is paving the way for an empowered and enriched learning environment, ensuring that every student can fulfill their potential and embrace a brighter future.
